Sports in Nepal lagging behind

It would be fair enough to say that development of sports in a particular country explains the development of country itself. From US to China or other powerhouse in sports, they are certainly powerhouse of world as well. Let us not go too far, just taking example of our neighbors,India and China. China is already a dominant force in sports as well as all the other aspects of society whereas India's investment in sports for the fast and rapid development cannot be chased easily. And, here we stand, between two powerhouses but still struggles to qualify for Olympics. We have completely failed to use the two neighbors in our favor. The only time our government remembers about sports is when we are going to organize some big tournament. Why are we lacking behind when we have so much of potential in our players? All foreign coaches who comes to Nepal to coach says that they have a huge potential. But, why are we still not progressing?
Here are the answers:

* Poor Misleading Leaders: In a country like ours, where sports is taken as second priority, for its development, you should have your first priority fully developed. So, can our country compete against Japan in the context of Advancement, Technology, HDI, Literacy, per-capita etc, No, not in this century. So, how can we expect our sports to develop then. Our leaders are busy in blaming each other for this and that, our whole system is totally corrupt. Even a simple construction work need politics. And, in such hostile environment, development of sports is out of imagine.

* Lack Of Infrastructure: Guess the numbers of proper stadiums in our country at present which can host some good tournaments. There aren't such stadiums at present. You might be amazed, I didn't listed Dasarath Rangashala here. Have you seen its condition at present? Goalnepal last week published the present conditions of Dasarath Rangashala which were heart breaking. How can we expect something good to happen if we cannot even improve the condition of a single stadium. Everybody including political parties and different companies remember when they need to organize some big programs, but as program ends, they do nothing for her betterment.That is the scenario of only Kathmandu. What about other cities except Kathmandu? They even don't have proper tracks for athletics to run, proper court to play. Its heart breaking. And, without proper infrastructure, it is impossible to develop anything including sports as well.

Lack Of Budget: Have you ever wondered what percent of the total budget of country goes for Sports? The total budget of 2014/15 fiscal year was 819 Billion NRs and among it, only 2.5 billion was for sports. Isn't that shocking? That is not even 0.01% of the total. There are more than 50 sports authority under Nepal Sports Council. How will you distribute such a little amount for more than 50 sports authority. As, I said earlier, Government and political parties aren't worried or concerned about sport and its development.

* Lack Of Coaches and Technology:  To be fair, we have completely failed to produce quality coaches for our player to coach. Neither we have tried to send our available coaches to abroad to improve their quality. This is a huge step back in development of sports. And, talking about technology, we live in 21st century, all the devices essential toady in sports like GPS tracking and other are today's technology gift. Are we using them here. No, not at all. We are still in 19th century without using any modern devices.

* Lack Of Tournaments: Can you expect players to improve if they don't get enough exposure in different type of tournaments? Not enough tournaments means no competition among the players. The National Sport Event, which was to be held in every two years hasn't been organized since 2010. It was to be organized this year but was again delayed due to lack of resources. Such a shame.

                                                               and last but not the list;

* Lack Of Prize and good Salary: Why would someone think of making career in sports if there is no prize and salary which can at least help his/her life running. Passion only cannot help a player to survive, you need good sum of money as well. But here, salary is a dream and prizes are also vey few and is of little money.
